To Kill A Mockingbird Discussion Has Been Rescheduled

Due to last week’s snowstorm, the 7:00 PM discussion time for To Kill a Mockingbird was cancelled and has been rescheduled for Tuesday evening, February 12th at 7:00 P.M. at the Odell Library. MORRISON: LET’S READ is a community-wide reading program sponsored by the Odell Public Library. Anne Frame will lead both thought-provoking discussions on Harper Lee’s engaging and timeless novel. Bring your thoughts, opinions, and book on Tuesday evening, February 12th!

Published in 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird was an instant success and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1961. Now a “must” on both high school and college reading lists, this book is beloved by millions of worldwide readers for its heart rendering childhood innocence, its condemnation of racial prejudice, and its affirmation that human goodness can withstand evil.

The innocence with which our heroine, Scout, and her brother, Jem, begin the novel is tested the many incidents that expose the evil side of human nature. Throughout all, we hear the innocent voice of Scout as she narrates what she saw and heard as her basic faith in the goodness of the people of her community is tested by hatred and prejudice.

Reading great literature makes us think about ourselves in relationship to the world we live in and the relationships we have with others. Talking about great literature with friends, family and neighbors adds a richness and depth to the reading process. Bring your book, tattered or new, and your thoughts and opinions to enliven and stimulate a conversation of a timely book, which still resonates with its themes and lessons.
