Monday, February 18, 2008 will be a Magnificent Monday! The Whiteside County Extension Office will be hosting a morning full of wonderful workshops available for third through fifth graders at the United Methodist Church, 200 W Lincolnway, Morrison, IL 61270. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. until noon with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Registration deadline for Magnificent Monday is February 8th and it is a first come first serve basis for the sessions that you would like to attend. The cost for the morning events is only $4.00 and the youth will come home with some wonderful ideas and projects. Monday, February 18, 2008 is Presidents’ Day so schools will be out of session.
The morning will start out from 9:00 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. the sessions will consist of the following:
Mystery Food: Do you like to make delicious food at home come to this session and see what surprise you will get to learn how to make.
Beading Time: Do you like beading and making shapes out of beads join in on some great designing fun.
Candle Light: Come make a beautifully decorated candle that you can keep or give as a gift to a friend or family member.
Grass People: Learn how things grow and at the same time get to decorate and make your own little plant person that can sit in your window and grow with a little tender loving care.
Parasite Sleuth: Come be a parasitologist, a scientist that studies parasites, make your own model parasite and learn more about how parasites are a parasite.
The second group of workshop options that are from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. are as follows:
Alternative Wind Energy: Learn how wind serves as an alternative wind energy for us to use and at the same time make your own wind mill to take home.
Chocolate Mania: Do you like chocolate? Then this is the workshop for you. We will make several scrumptious chocolate treats in the chocolicous event.
Winter Craft Time: It is winter time but let’s brighten it up with a little bit of craft fun. Join this session to see what wonderful winter craft item you will make.
Fit with Video: Do you like video games but your parents want you to be fit and up and about? Come learn how to do both at once in this fantastically fit workshop.
Stained Glass: If you like arts and crafts you will like this. Come learn how to make beautiful artwork that looks like stained glass.
The third set of workshops will run from 11:00 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. and will consist of the following:
Mystery Agriculture: Come see what’s being created when science and agriculture team up.
Eggs to the Eg-Streme: Are you a little bit of a mad scientist? Come learn lots of exciting science and magical experiments dealing with eggs in this egg-citing session.
Cooking with Katie: Come make a fast and ezy treat such as the doughnut parfait and learn the in’s and outs for cooking up a storm.
Teaming Up with Camp: Want to learn how to work together with others as a team and make things click. Check out this session on how to team up and get excited about 4-H Camp at Camp White Eagle.
Tye Dye Extravaganza: Learn how to add interest and color to your t-shirts and bandanas during this brilliantly fun session.
