Lenten Recitals at United Methodist Church

Following Ash Wednesday on February 6th, the Christian world will journey through the Lenten season toward Palm Sunday and Holy Easter. The United Methodist Church of Morrison will offer a unique opportunity for Lenten contemplation and reflection. The New Visions: New Directions program will present a series of Noon Recitals.

During the Fridays of Lent, there will be a series of six 25-30 minute Noon Concerts presented by various musicians of the church and community. These concerts will be held in the sanctuary and will begin at noon. Beginning Friday, February 8th, the first concert will feature Dr.Robert Elfline, professor of piano at Augustana College. The following Friday, February 15th’s artist will be vocalist Jeff McDearmon. Continuing for the ensuing Fridays will be vocalist, Laurie Wilkins on Friday, February 22nd; bassoonist, Cheryl Neuwmann on Friday, February 29th; organist, pianist and vocalist, Rich Criss on Friday, March 2nd, and concluding the recitals will be trumpet and tuba selections from Larry Olson and Aaron Johnson, on March 14th. John Frame will accompany several of the vocal and instrumental recitals. Each of these musicians offers a varied program to uplift and renew.

These dynamic, thoughtful, and musical moments present an opportunity for each listener to hear an artistic performance and a time to pause on Lenten Friday to reflect and contemplate. Each twenty-five minute concert will be followed by a soup luncheon. There is no charge for the concert. However, a free will offering will be taken for the luncheon.

Come, listen, enjoy, and be uplifted.
