5th grade colts crush Erie 5th/6th team |
by Rick O’Shea We traveled to Erie on Thursday the 29th to play the combined 5th and 6th grade team. What was supposed to be a true test for our Colts turned into a raught. Our defense once again stepped it up and played a terrific game. Erie ran just 22 plays for the game, gaining 48 yards and two first downs. Thirty-three yards came on a pass play on their second possession. I truly believe we have the best and most play spirals defense of any 5th grade team I’ve seen this year. Although Erie was a big team we were able to handle them on both sides of the ball. Danny Willis started our scoring with a 50-yard sweep around the left end. (I‘m not sure who is faster between Danny and Blake Blean but matching them with the power of running of Brock Deter and no one can match our backfield. Brock pounded it in for the 2-point conversion bringing the score to 8-2. One second down Erie completed a long pass of thirty-three yards that looked to be an easy score until Brock Deter drug the receiver down from behind at the 32-yard line. The defense then stepped it up and held the offense to one yard on four plays. Blake was next to score with a run from eighteen yards out. This touchdown was set by a very nice run of forty yard by Blake. The two point conversion run was good by Danny making the score 16-0. The second half started much like the first. Danny Willis went around the end again of forty-three yards down to the two-yard line. This time it was Brock’s turn to score. The conversion wasn’t good leaving the score 22-0. On Erie’s next possession a fumble was forced and recovered by Phillip O’Shea. It was four and out as the defense held on a fourth and four play. Our last touchdown of the game came on a waggle pass form Phillip to Reid Hoffman from thirteen yards out. Brock’s conversion was good. Final score 30-0. This was quite a performance put on by our young men against a combined 5th and 6th grade team.
