F-S Fillies Win Their Own Tournament

On Saturday April 23 the F/S Fillies hosted a four-team tournament. The first game the Fillies played was against Thomson, Mt Carroll, Savana (TMS), Ashlie Patten pitched for the fillies and wasted no time putting TMS in order. This brought the Fillies to bat. They wasted no time scoring runs. Megan Nelson doubled on, followed by a double by Patten to score Nelson, Kate Tenboer pushed Patten to third and Patten stole home, Jordan Mann singled on, Callie Bush walked, Heather Andersen singled in Mann, Kate Durham singled in Bush and Andersen. This made the score 5-0.

The TMS was sent back to the bench in order in the second inning. The Fillies continued to score. Kyla Renkes bunted on, Nelson doubled in Renkes, Patten singled in Nelson, and Tenboer doubled in Patten. Jordan Mann doubled in Tenboer, Bush singled to get aboard, Andersen doubled in Mann, Bush stole home. Durham singled, Renkes bunted in Andersen, and Durham stole home. This made the score 13-0.

In the third and fourth inning Patten sat TMS down in order and the Fillies added some more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jessica Pell singled, Vegter singled, Nelson singled in Pell and Patten singled in Vegter. This made the final score 15-0. Patten pitched a great game allowing only one hit in the otherwise perfect game. She faced 16 batters and struck out 7.

The championship game brought Sherrard to the field. Sherrard was a much tougher opponent. The fillies batted first and wasted no time scoring. Renkes bunted on and stole around to home. Kate Tenboer got the nod pitching. She sat Sherrard down in order leaving the score 1-0.

In the top of the second the Fillies offence struck again. Andrea Vegter was walked, Renkes bunted and both scored on a series of errors by the Sherrard defense. The Filly defense held strong and left the score 3-0.

The top of the third brought more scoring for the Fillies. Patten led off with a triple and scored on a single by Tenboer. Sherrard pecked a little at the Filly lead scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the third leaving the score 4-2.

The Fillies struck again in the fifth. Patten was hit by a pitch and stole around to score, Tenboer reached first, and Mann knocked her in making the score 6-2.

The Fillies broke the game open in the sixth inning scoring 4 more runs. Renkes, Nelson, and Patten were walked in order loading the bases for Tenboer who knocked in Renkes and Nelson. Patten stole her way home. Mann and Andersen walked and Callie Knocked in Tenboer Leaving the score 10-2. The filly defense continued to hold Sherrard.

The Fillies continued their scoring effort in the top of the seventh. Alene Vandermyde Singled on and scored on another series of errors on a Renkes bunt this left the score 11-2, which was the final. Tenboer turned in a sparkling performance striking out 13 and only allowing two runs. The Fillies are now 13-2 on the year.
