Mustang Baseball Wins Double Header in AFC |
On Saturday, April 2, The Mustangs headed to Ashton to play Forreston and Ashton-Franklin-Center immediately following. It proved to be a beautiful day for baseball, but a little windy. The Mustangs came through and had a very good day, winning both games.
The Mustangs were up to bat first, and they came out swinging. Kistler and Frickenstein took walks, while Schisler, Hook, and Vock all got on base with singles, Bringing Kistler and Frickenstein Home. Marcus Hill had a sacrifice fly, to bring Schisler home. Kendal McDearmon got another 2 RBI’s bringing home Hook and Vock before the impressive start was ended by Adam Rumfelt being tagged out at second. The Mustang Defense also proved strong, only allowing 5 batters and no runs. The score at the end of the first was 5-0. The next few innings were fairly uneventful, with no scores in the second from Morrison, and Schisler’s pitching allowing only 4 batters form Forreston. In the third inning, Marcus had a triple to deep left field, and was brought in by A. Rumfelt with a sacrifice fly. Kistler and McDearmon both had fly outs to end their turn batting. For Forreston, they were finally able to bring in Bracker with an RBI from Burlshardt before their third out, putting the score at 6-1. Thr fourth inning was also very short, with Morrison scoring no runs, and batting 5. On defense, Schisler had a fly out, and two strike outs in the fourth. In the 5th inning, Morrison had Rumfelt and McDearmon walked by Forreston’s relief pitcher. Kistler brought in Rumfelt, Frickenstien had a single, and Schisler had 2 RBI’s sending one back to the fence in right field. Schisler never made it home, and a fly out by Leison ended the inning with a 3 scores for Morrison. At the bottom of the 5th, Wilken and Kubatzke were put on base by fielding errors at first and shortstop by Morrison, and a homerun by Burlshardt brought in 3 runs for Forreston, Putting the score at 8-4. In the 6th, Marcus Hill had a single, but was left stranded on second to end the top. Froreston had a good at-bat, scoring 3 off of Adam Rumfelt’s pitching, 2 of which were walked to get on base. In the 7th inning, Hook and Vock were put on base, and brought in by a shot from Leison. At the bottom of the inning, with David Grams Pitching, Forreston went 3 up, 3 down. The final score of the game was 11-7 In the second game of the day, Morrison played AFC, which was an exciting game for Morrison. In the first inning, Marcus Rumfelt walked one, struck out one, and the field took care of the other 2 outs. Morrison’s Frickenstein and Schisler scored, brought in by Hook and Vock. In the second inning, AFC’s Oenuer, Raser, and Kennay scored off of walks. On Morrison’s at bat, Neighbour was the only person to score, brought in by Beveroth. In the third inning, Morrison’s defense prevented any scores, and on the batting side, Frickenstien, Schisler, and Hook scored, brought in by RBI’s from Vock and Leison. The 4th inning was slow, and Cahill scored for AFC, with an error at 3rd base. Morrison scored twice from Beveroth and Schisler, brought in by Vock, putting the score at 8-5. In the final inning, Rumfelt went 3 up and 3 down, which cleared the way for Morrison to score 7 runs and 10 run the Raiders, Which is exactly what they did. The scores came from Neighbour, Kistler, with a valiant “slide” into home, Frickenstein, Schisler, Hook, Vock, and Leison to bring the game to an exciting end.
