Fillies hit by last second Missile |
By: Lindsey Smith The Morrison versus Milledgeville game was a big one for both teams. They will most likely meet each other in the Rock Falls Regional on Tuesday, so this game was like a preview of what to expect. In the first quarter, the Fillies scored double digits at 11, while holding Milledgeville to nine. Morrison widened its lead to four in the second quarter by taking a 14-12 scoring edge. At halftime, Morrison was ahead 25-23. Morrison was only outscored in the quarters once. It was in the third quarter, and boy was it a killer. The Missiles, or rather Casey Schave, came out firing in the third quarter. They racked up 19 points in the third, and held Morrison nine. The Fillies went from up four to down six. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 34-40. The Fillies needed to make a come back in the fourth. They were doing just that by playing a box and one to shut down Schave. Morrison tied the game up at 44-44 with about seven seconds left. The Missiles had only seen one basket and two free throws of offense in the fourth, while the Fillies dumped in ten more points. After an inbounds gone bad for the Missiles, Milledgeville and Morrison scrambled to be the first team to pick up the loose ball. Schave somehow got the ball and with less than a second left she fired. Schave scored her 29th and 30th points of the game to give Milledgeville a 46-44 edge over Morrison. Abby Vock led the team in scoring with 16 points. Amanda “Smiley” Smith helped by tacking on 14. Katie Tenboer rolled in seven points, while Heather Andersen dropped five through. Michaele Vock wrapped up the Filly scoring with two points. The Lady Missiles shot 56% from behind the arc, draining five of their nine attempts. Four of these three pointers came from Casey Schave. Abby was the only Filly to connect with downtown. She had one three in the game. Inside the arc, Morrison shot 64%, attempting 28 two-point shots and making 18 of them. Milledgeville shot just 36% inside, hitting 12 out of 33 shots. Amanda stole the ball three times from the Missiles, which ended up being a third of Morrison’s steals. (Katie 2, Heather 2, Michaele 1, Jodi 1). Abby was the lone Filly to assist. She led the team with two. Jodi and Katie got big in the middle and rejected one shot each. Morrison was just edged out on the boards also. Milledgeville brought in 21 rebounds, eight of which were on the offensive end. Morrison snatched 18 boards, cleaning up five times on offense. Michaele led the Fillies on the glass. She grabbed five rebounds, all defensive. (Katie one defensive two offensive, Amanda three defensive, Heather three offensive, Jodi and Abby two defensive each). The Fillies had just eight turnovers in the game, five of which were in the first half. Their record now stands at 17-6 overall after this non-conference game. by larryg |
