Mustangs Fall to Riverdale |
The Mustangs hosted Riverdale on February 1, 2005. It was Pack the Place night, meaning lots of games and entertainment at halftime. The Junior Varsity game went very well for Morrison, winning 57-33. After a pre-game show by the pep band, The Varsity team came out ready to put up a third win for the season.
Morrison started out on a bad leg, letting Riverdale dump the first score of a 3 pointer in to start the game. Morrison held tight though, never taking the lead in the first quarter, but staying to within 4. The score was 9-13 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, much of the same was seen from Morrison, but Riverdale stepped up the scoring, and the Mustangs proved unable to answer, leaving the score at 31-16 at the half. In the third quarter, Morrison stepped up their game, and before 3 minutes had passed, they had brought the score back to within 10, 38-28. For the rest of the quarter, Morrison continued to gain ground, with 2 points from Damhoff, 5 from Popkin, and 4 from Vock, they had brought the score to within 4 by the end of the quarter with a score of 43-39. To start off the 4th quarter, the Rams put in 2 free throws, but a 3 by Popkin brought the score to within 3. The Rams again scored 2 of their own, but was immediately matched by Sharp, and later a field goal by Popkin brought the score to 46-50 with 4 minutes left in the quarter. However, Morrison soon ran out of gas, and was unable to score for the rest of the game. Riverdale took advantage of the situation and put up another 6 points, leaving the final score at 56-46. by larryg |
