Mustangs Come to Within 1 |
The Mustangs played host to the Prophetstown Prophets on Friday, January 28. For a team with only 2 wins, the Mustangs sure brought a huge following, packing the gym for some great action.
Morrison was the first to strike with a 3 pointer, but soon Prophetstown came back into the game and took the lead with 4:30 left in the first with a score of 7-5. Soon Trevor Popkin put up 5 points to bring the score back to within 1. At the end of the wuarter, Brad Sharp was fouled, and made the 2 free throws, putting the halftime score at 13-12, with the Prophets up by 1. In the second quarter, Prophetstown took control of the game, getting a lot of buckets in a short amount of time putting the Prophets up by 9 at one point. Morrison had the opportunities, but the basketball never seemed to make it into the bucket. At the end of the quarter, the Mustangs had recovered slightly, bringing to score to 28-23 at the end of the half. In the 3rd quarter, Prophetstown stayed strong, while Morrison continued to make a lot of mistakes. The Mustangs slowly came back to within 6 with a score of 45-39 at the end of the third quarter. Nate Vock started out the 4th by draining a field goal, which was followed up by a 3 pointer by Popkin to come to within 3, 49-46. Sharp put in a free throw to come to within 2, but P-Town scored. Popkin matched it putting the score at 49-50. The rally continued in the final minute of play, and in the final seconds, Kenseth put in a 3 to stay within 1. The game ended with the Mustangs wishing that they had either not fouled as much or made a few more free throws. The final score was 54-55. by larryg |
