Mustangs Almost Upset Fulton

On Saturday, January 15, The Mustangs hosted the Fulton Steamers for an exciting night of basketball, complete with a Pons performance to movie songs and a pre game show by the Morrison Pep Band. Morrison came out strong, perhaps inspired by a great J.V. game, but nonetheless came out to a good lead, , maintaining it until the final tick of the first quarter with a score of 15-17.

In the second quarter, the Mustangs were able to bring the game back to a tie, which was broken by a 3 pointer by Jon Kenseth to put the Mustangs up, 20-17. The Mustangs did not score again until late in the half, when another 3 by Kenseth, 2 by Vegter, and a final 2 by Sharp brought the game back to a close game again at 27-34 going into the half.

In the 3rd quarter, the Mustangs again found themselves in a big deficit, with a score of 35-41 with 4:30 left in the game. The Mustangs came fighting back, getting the lead with a score from Popkin with 1:35 left in the 3rd, 42-41. Another few scores by Popkin put the score at 48-43 at the end of the 3rd, with the crowd going wild. In the fourth, Tenboer scored a few to put the score at 52-47, but the Steamers came rolling back, tying the game with a free throw, and increasing it with a 3 pointer. The Mustangs we able to keep close with the Steamers, staying within 2 at 57-59, but soon the Mustangs ran out of gas, and the Steamers took control of the game in the final minutes. The Mustangs ended up losing a heartbreaker in the final minutes, with a score of 73-63.
