Nine locations throughout the state will host the 2006 Illinois Dairy Days, "Building on Basics," sponsored by University of Illinois Extension. The series begins January 4 and concludes January 19.

"The dairy business continues to face challenging times and to help dairy producers make correct management decisions we have developed this series of one-day meetings," said Mike Hutjens, University of Illinois Extension dairy specialist.

"These meetings provide a good opportunity to capitalize on the latest dairy innovations close to home."

Topics covered include managing milk components, bright ideas in dry cow management, implementing health management protocols, feeding challenges, premise and animal identification, forages, and mastitis. Presenters are Hutjens; Geoff Dahl, University of Illinois Extension dairy specialist; Dave Fischer, University of Illinois Extension dairy educator; and Dick Wallace University of Illinois Extension dairy veterinarian.

With the exception of the January 10 program in Jerseyville, the seminars begin at 9:45 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. Also sponsoring the series is the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Dates and locations are:
January 4--Arthur, Yoder's Country Kitchen; January 5--Eureka, Eureka College, Cerf Center; January 10--Quincy, Adams County Farm Bureau Building; January 10--Jerseyville, 7:30 p.m., Super 8 Motel; January 11--Okawville, Community Club Building; January 12--Breese, American Legion; January 17--Freeport, Highland Community College; January 18--Elizabeth, Community Center; January 19--Harvard, Stratford Inn.
