Girl Scouts Candy Cane Day |
|
The Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church was like walking into Santa’s workshop but it wasn’t little elves busy at work it was Girl Scouts from kindergarten through third grade. It wasn’t toys they were making but Christmas crafts they could take home for themselves. Eighty-five Daisies and Brownies from Two-Rivers District Girls Scouts from Morrison and surrounding areas came together on Saturday, December 3 for the Fourth Annual Candy Cane Day. Six stations were set up with a different craft at each one. The girls made snowman cards using recycled paper pieces and salt. No scissors were used to make the snowmen instead the girls had to tear the paper into desired shapes. Paper sack stockings were one of the other stations in which the girls made and decorated their stocking with cotton, glitter, yarn and other materials. Marshmallow Snowmen were cute with their pretzel arms, Dorito hats, red-hot candy eyes, and M&M buttons. Coffee filters and tissue paper were formed into white angel ornaments. One of the favorites was decorating sugar cookies with colored frosting and sprinkles. The girls were given two plain sugar cookies to decorate using their imaginations. Not all took two home, as they were pretty tempting to eat after they were decorated. The girls also designed Reindeer take home bags to transport all of their crafts safely home at the end of the day. The girls who attended will be awarded their Christmas Crafts badge, which is a Ginger Bread House to attach to their vests. Third year Juniors, Cadets and Senior girls were on hand to help with instructing the younger girls in making the crafts to obtain service hours.
