Over 200 desks are on their way from Morrison to Slidell, Louisiana. Roger Kallenbach left Morrison on Nov. 30 and is driving the shipment to the Abner and Brock Elementary Schools in St. Tammany Parish.

The impetus for the donation came from Southside School Custodian Jon Heusinkveld and District Maintenance Director Dean Wallace, according to Superintendent of Schools Jody Ware.

“Marcus Rumfelt, one of our part-time custodians, also helped dismantle the desks,” added Dr. Ware.

In addition to the 208 schools desks, 12 computer carts and 50 primary chairs are included in the shipment. This equipment was surplus inventory, which was replaced at the beginning of this school year.

Everything about this shipment was donated. Kallenbach is donating his time; Bruce Zaagman provided the tractor and Kenny VenHuizen provided the trailer. The desks were packed at the Morrison General Electric plant using material from GE.

A fund for gas and expense money was started with a $200 donation from Gold Star FS. Morrison churches took up collections to add to that for a total of $1,679. 26. These churches included Bethesda Lutheran, Ebenezer Reformed, St. Peter’s Lutheran, First Baptist and United Methodist; Emmanuel Reformed collected over $800.

The schools are expected to open in January.
