Morrison Police Warn Residents of Recent Scam |
|
The Morrison Police Department is warning residents of a scam. Possibly originating from Nigerian nationals. Several residents of Morrison have reported this scam to the Police Department over the past several months. One resident has been billed for $2,000 as a result of this scam. Initially, the potential victim will receive a letter, e-mail, or fax, advising them that the sender wishes to either purchase an item the victim has advertised on line, or advising them that they can obtain an enormous amount of money from an estate or lottery. The sender will then remit a forged money order for several thousand dollars, and request the potential victim wire cash to the sender, anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars. The Police Department is advising all residents NOT to reply to suspicious written requests, faxes, or e-mails. And never provide personal information unless you are certain of the identity of the individual receiving that information. Neither the Police Department, nor the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has jurisdiction to pursue these scammers. by Editor, theCity1.com |
