Thanksgiving CARE – Click It or Ticket |
|
The Illinois State Police (ISP) District 1 announced recently enforcement efforts for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday period. Beginning November 21, 2005 and continuing through December 4, Troopers will participate in the Click It or Ticket Mobilization, which is designed to increase seat belt use. The ISP will also participate in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E) November 23-27. “The Thanksgiving Holiday travel period is the busiest travel time of the year,” stated District 1 Commander Captain James Wolf. “This holds true from the Wednesday before Thanksgiving all the way through the weekend,” continued Wolf. Of the 22 fatal crashes over the holiday period last year, 11 (50%) occurred on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The Illinois State Police, along with local and county law enforcement agencies across the state, will participate in the Click It or Ticket Mobilization by taking a zero tolerance approach to seat belt and child restraint violators. Troopers will also be concentrating on occupant restraint violations as well as speeding, DUI and other moving violations during the C.A.R.E. enforcement period and during various hire back details and pro-active directed patrols throughout the Thanksgiving holiday period. “Our goal is to save lives by increasing seat belt use, slowing people down and aggressively enforcing DUI and alcohol related violations. Teenagers and young adults are especially at risk Traffic crashes remain the leading cause of death for males and females age 3-33. Teens and young adults (ages 16-24) are also the least likely to wear seat belts,” stated Wolf. During the 2004 Thanksgiving period (November 24-28), 29 people were killed as a result of 22 crashes in Illinois. by Editor, theCity1.com |
