An Illinois Beef Health and Management Seminar will be held from 5:30 to 9:15 p.m., December 12, at the Schuyler County Extension Office, sponsored by University of Illinois Extension.

"There is no doubt that maintaining the health of the beef cattle herd will pay big dividends," said Dave Seibert, University of Illinois Extension animal systems educator based in East Peoria. "It has a direct bearing on the enterprise's potential for profitability. As with any practice, prevention is 99 percent of the cure and practitioners speaking at this educational program will provide the most current information on pertinent topics as they pertain to the beef industry."

Local practitioners will speak at the seminar, including several area veterinarians. U of I Extension beef veterinarian Gavin Meerdink is on the program, as is Cimeron Frost, vice president for member services for the Illinois Beef Association. Kevin Curry of Alpharma Animal Health is also on the program.

Co-sponsors of the seminar are the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, the Illinois Beef Association, Alpharma Animal Health, and the local Beef Cattlemen's Association.

Seibert said there is no charge for attending the seminar, which includes a light evening meal, however pre-registration is encouraged by December 7. Pre-registration can be completed by contacting the Schuyler County Extension office at (217) 322-3381. For additional information about the program, contact Seibert at (309) 694-7501, ext. 224.
