Fall Arrives

Leaves turning, pumpkins appearing on porches and apple orchards yielding their annual bounty are all signs that fall has arrived, and University of Illinois Extension has helpful seasonal information available at the click of a mouse.

"We have three fall-related areas within our Urban Programs Resources website," said Jane Scherer, University of Illinois Extension urban programs specialist. "In these areas, one can find information about apples, pumpkins, and fall color."

Apples and More, located at: Apples and More , is a rich source for all kinds of apple facts, including how to preserve them, how to select the best variety for a particular purpose, recipes, and locations of orchards and apple festivals.

Similar information for pumpkins can be found on the Pumpkins and More pages, located at: Pumpkins and More.

The pages include the history of pumpkins, nutritional values and varieties, recipes, the location of pumpkin farms and festivals, and Halloween links.

"One of the most enjoyable things about fall is the turning of the leaves and the resulting tapestry of color painted by nature," said Scherer. "The Miracle of Fall pages include live foliage camera views plus updates on when and where the leaves are turning."

There are tips for fall driving and hiking, along with the times and location of various fall festivals and events. The Miracle of Fall is located at: The Miracle of Fall.
