Impact of Couple, Marital Relationships

Professionals who work with families are invited to “The Impact of Couple and Marital Relationships on Parenting and Child Outcomes,” a two-part national satellite series, December 2 and December 9. The series will be broadcast at 10:00 a.m. CST in Morrison, IL and various locations throughout the United States. Iowa State University Extension is sponsoring the program. University of Illinois Extension, Whiteside County is hosting the local downlink at 100 East Knox Street, Morrison, IL.

The program also will be offered via Webcast. It is strongly recommended that Web viewers have a T-1 connection to view the program via Webcast.

“The December 2 program will cover the relationship between marriage and parenting,” said Janice McCoy, Family Life Educator. “Participants also will learn how to support unmarried, new-parent couples in forming healthy marriages and stable families.

“The December 9 program will examine how healthy couples lead to healthy kids,” McCoy added. “Participants will learn ways to strengthen couple relationships so children of those relationships have a better life.”

During each program, viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions via live call-in sessions and to learn from and network with others who share similar interests or concerns about parenting, McCoy said.

The series is designed for professionals who work with families, including family and parenting educators, social workers, family support workers, counselors, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, extension educators and others interested in couple and marriage relationships and parenting. College students who are studying in these areas also are welcome to attend.
