Two Locals Complete Pain Resource Certification

Marda Hoff, R.N.C., Patient Services Coordinator and Deanna Hendricks, R.N. of Hospice of the Rock River Valley successfully completed the Pain Resource Certification on September 28, 2005.

The Sixth Pain Resource Nurse (PRN) three-day Education Program was offered to healthcare agencies in all practice settings throughout the region. The purpose of the PRN program is to educate staff nurses to function as a resource in pain management to their peers. A pain resource disseminates information, models patient advocacy and helps improve the practice. This program was modeled after the City of Hope program in California, which has been proven to be cost-effective in providing decentralized approaches to pain management to their peers.

Being recognized as a pain resource nurse provides continued benefits for education and networking at regional meetings. The program was sponsored by Medical Pain Management Services, Ltd., Saint Anthony Medical Center, and Swedish American Health Systems. The program was also co-sponsored by Rock Valley College Business-Outreach Institute.
