Local man announces candidacy

Dennis Hackbarth of Fulton, Illinois announced his candidacy for President of the United States and we sat down with Mr. Hackbarth on October 21, 2005 in a question and answer format.

TC1:You had previously announced your desire to run for the office of president of the United States in the 2004 campaign but were not placed on the ballot. How is the 2008 campaign different for you and do you believe it is possible to win?

Hackbarth:”I really believe I can speak for the people if elected president. People want to know the truth and they want to hear it from the heart, with those principles in mind I think I can be placed on the ballot.”

TC1: What are the top three things you would change within 24 hours of being elected president?

Hackbarth:”First I would immediately lower prescription drug costs for the elderly, secondly I would form a government panel to determine why Social Security is running out of funds and make those responsible more accountable and third I want our government to get back to the basics of an honest and trustworthy approach to governing for the people.”

TC1:How has the Federal government handled national disasters and would you make any changes?

Hackbarth:”I think President Bush should have been on the ground much sooner after the Hurricane Katrina hit and showing the people he really cared about their situation more. During the 911 attack I think the President should have been more visible to calm the nation. We should have had better strategies in place to handle these large scale disasters.”

TC1:Can you describe to our viewers what your Foreign Policy might be?

Hackbarth:”Our biggest concern should be North Korea and their nuclear weapons facility. I would sit down and listen to why they are making weapons of mass destruction and if the meetings proved no immediate answer then I would find new lines of communication and continue the dialogue until we got an agreement.”

TCR:Is there a scenario in your Foreign Policy to bomb the North Korea nuclear weapons facility?

Hackbarth:”War is never the best option and we would need concrete evidence to support such action. It is not in the best interest of the United States to take out any such facility.”

TC1: Can you describe your political party affiliations?

Hackbarth:”I am a member of the Independent Party, we are not conservative and not liberal. And my platform is the platform for the people.”

TC1: How do you expect to raise funds for your campaign?

Hackbarth:” We will have fundraisers such as picnics and they will be affordable. We accept contributions and donations.People can find more information by logging on to my website http://www.webspawner.com/users/dennisehackbarth/index.html.I really want to let the working class of people know that even small donations are a help and I will represent them well.I do need people who can budget funds well and would like to join my campaign management.”

TC1: Are there any groups you would not accept funds from?

Hackbarth:” I really havn’t thought of any.”

TC1:What drives you to do this?

Hackbarth:”I believe it is time for action to stop all the special interest groups in Washington and I believe there is a status quo in decision making thus allowing these special interest groups to line their pockets at the people’s expense.I have encouragement from friends and supporters that allows me to keep trying.”

TC1:What is the next step for your campaign run?

Hackbarth:”I will be announcing to run for President of the United States and I will be contacting all forms of the media with my announcement. I need volunteers for my campaign to assist in the campaign and I hope people will call or email me to show their support.”

TC1:The presidential election is still 3 years away. Would you like to say anything now to help bolster support?

Hackbarth:”I have never held a political position local, state or nationwide. I feel this is not a popularity contest or the person who has the most money will win. All you have to do is take the first step and go for it. Having enough people that believe in you and what you are all about.I would encourage people to look at my website, see who I am and contact me if they wish to support my campaign.Thank you.”
