Fall Horse Seminar Series in November |

The seminars will take place at the Black Hawk East Ag Pavilion on the campus south of Kewanee from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on November 3, 10, and 17. The program is sponsored jointly by Henry-Stark Extension Henry, Bureau, and Stark County Farm Bureau as well as Black Hawk East Community College. The first session on November 3 will include a demonstration from Linda Thomas, an Animal Communicator from Moline as well as a presentation on “Animal ID Policy and How it Affects Horse Owners” by Jim Fraley, Illinois Farm Bureau Livestock Policy Expert. On November 10, Kevin Kline, University of Illinois Horse Specialist, will provide a demonstration on horse handling called “The Psychology of Trailer Training and Ground Handling of Horses.” The second session on the 10th will be presented by Mike Buskohl, an Equine Chiropractor from South Beloit. The final session on November 17 will be on “Conformation on Halter and What the Judge is Looking For” by James Lattimer, Assistant Horse Judging Team Coach and Instructor at BHE. To close the program, Dean Oswald, University of Illinois Livestock Educator, will present “Evaluating and Purchasing Horse Hay,” which will include a hay evaluation exercise for participants. The sessions are $3 per session with a maximum of $10 per family or $7 per person for all three sessions. BHE students are free. The deadline for registration is October 27. Pass the word, get a group together, and plan to car pool with several other horse enthusiasts.
