Is it Time for a Second Opinion?

Do you have a treasured antique which was examined in the past?

You might want to obtain an expert second opinion by bringing it to the Appraisal Day scheduled at Morrison’s Heritage Museum, 202 Lincolnway Road, where the history of Morrison is always on display.

Dr. George Morris returns Saturday, October 29. Previous visits were in 2000, 2002, and 2003. His appraisal practice now includes house calls for Morrison residents.

Walk-ins are welcome to consult with Dr. Morris from 10:00 to noon, with examinations lasting about 10 minutes. The first item costs $10; each additional item costs $5.

If a previous exam yielded a different opinion than his, Dr. Morris encourages you to explain the reason. Kindly bring any provenance, or history, of your antique.

He specializes in porcelain, Persian carpets, and furniture. Although Dr. Morris does not have expertise to evaluate stamps or coins, he can refer you to others who do.

“You can study all you want, but it’s hands-on [experience] that counts,” he stated. Becoming a skilled appraiser takes “lots of looking, talking with people, and going places.” Audience participation is part of the consultation.

From 1:00 to 4:00, Dr. Morris will visit homes to assess housebound “patients.” The evaluation fee is $25 for the first item, but only $5 for each additional. Schedule an appointment for a house call with Judy McCulloh at (815) 772-3224.

If you wish to sell your antique, Dr. Morris can refer you to a colleague. He never purchases items he appraises.
