SWCD Contributes to High School Natural Resourses Class

The Whiteside County Soil and Water Conservation District Education Foundation has awarded to Morrison High School a $1,000 Education Grant to sponsor and promote the development of curriculum for a new Natural Resources class. Mr. Gregg Dolan, Integrated Science and Biology teacher, was presented with the Grant by Mrs. Nancy Anderson, Conservation District Education Coordinator, at the September 13 Board of Education meeting. The Grant also provides a donation of prairie seeds for the development of a prairie site and wildlife garden habitat on the Genesee Street edge of the campus. Mr. Glenn Peterson, retired Morrison Integrated Science and Ag teacher, will assist Dolan in initiating the planting project and the long-range creation of the site.

The student body in the fall of 2004 voted to add to the High School curriculum six additional areas of study. The addition of a Natural Resources class was one of the recommendations of the students. Morrison High School has since 1995 been a yearly participant in the national conservation and environmental program, the Envirothon.
