"Rockin' The Rafters' - Katrina Benefit held October 1 |
|
Can we ever begin to imagine the devastation, destruction, and damage that Hurricane Katrina left behind unless we were there and saw it for ourselves? The rafters will be rockin’ in rural Morrison on Saturday, October 1, 2005, as area bands donate their time for your entertainment. “Rockin’ the Rafters From Here to the Bayou” is a Hurricane Katrina Benefit being held at Phil and Heather Mallegni’s in “Phil’s Barn” located at 16183 Round Grove Road, Morrison. Round Grove Road is west of Rock Falls and east of Morrison on Route 30. Watch for signs. The barn is then located 1.9 miles north of Route 30 on Round Grove Road. You will be able to talk first hand with Connie Parks from Biloxi, Mississippi, who is a Hurricane Katrina survivor. She will tell her story. Her home also survived the hurricane but both of her sons lost theirs. Events begin on Round Grove Road at 1 p.m. A Poker Run proceeds these happenings at Champ’s Bar in Sterling. Signup for the run is from 10-11 a.m. A donation breakfast is being served. The Poker Run will end at “Phil’s Barn.” This benefit run will be 50% payback and 50% benefit. Activities at “Phil’s Barn” begin at 1 p.m. Gates will be open at noon. Live and Silent Auctions will be running on the hour all day. Bands, which are scheduled to play, are Shane Johnson and J.C., M.T. Pockets, Carolina Dog, Jodi Sunday, Buster Brown, Mercury Brothers and Cuz Band. The Morrison High School Music Department is generously allowing the use of the P.A. system, which will be used that day. A $5 donatation gets you into what proves to be a great event for the whole family (kids 12 and under are free). Good food, beverages, drawings, auctions and the bands will continue all day. Individuals or businesses are donating everything for this event. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds will go toward the Katrina Relief and 25% of the money goes to the Humane Society of South Mississippi. Donations are still being accepted for the auction. If you have large items you can have them scheduled for pick up. For more information call Heather at 815-631-1779.
