Juvenile Charged with Possession and Burglary

On 09-17-05, at approximately 7:49 p.m., Morrison Police responded to a domestic disturbance in which a 13-year-old juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. A subsequent investigation by the Morrison Police Department and the Prophetstown Police Department resulted in further charges against the juvenile of two (2) counts of burglary in Morrison, and two (2) counts of burglary in Prophetstown.

The burglary charges in Morrison resulted after the juvenile admitted to stealing liquor from Sullivan Foods on 08-05-05 and on 08-19-05. Shortly after the August 5 burglary at Sullivan’s, the juvenile was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning.

The juvenile was later detained at the Mary Davis Juvenile Detention Center in Galesburg pending a detention hearing before a judge. The juvenile is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Also assisting in the investigation was Whiteside County Juvenile Court Services.

On 09-18-05, at approximately 9:43 p.m., Morrison Police arrested Jose E. Ortiz, 30, Rock Falls, on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving on an expired driver’s license. Ortiz was charged in the 700 block of East Lincolnway after police received a motorist report of an erratic driver on Route #30.

Ortiz was subsequently incarcerated at the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center in lieu of $300 cash bond. Ortiz is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
