Illinois crop and livestock prodders worried about the implications of the drought for corn, soybeans, and forages can go to a new University of Illinois Extension website for information. “We have placed material covered during a September 2 statewide drought TeleNet on Web,” said Jim Morrison, University of Illinois Extension crop systems educator based in Rockford. “The material is designed for crop and livestock producers as well as industry representatives. The material provides management strategies and guidelines for dealing with moisture-stressed crops. “Also, the potential impact of the drought on cropping decisions for 2006 is addressed.” The website is located at: U of I Extension. Topics covered include: Impact on Corn and Soybean Yield and Seed Quality; Impact on 2006 Corn Rootworm Population; Grain Storage Considerations; What’s the Potential for Herbicide Carryover in 2006; Using Drought-Stressed Corn in Dairy and Beef Rations; Aflatoxin in Corn; and Forage Seeding Options. by Editor, theCity1.com |
