Drought Implications for Crops Discussed

“Drought Implications for Corn, Soybean, and Forages in Northern Illinois” is the theme of a program on September 2, 2005, offered via the University of Illinois Extension teleconference system.

The program, designed for crop and livestock producers as well as ag industry representatives, will provide management strategies and guidelines for dealing with moisture-stressed crops. Also discussed will be the potential impact of the drought on cropping decisions for 2006. The teleconference begins with check-in at 9:30 a.m. and the program from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon.

The following topics will be covered in 15 minute segments: Impact on Corn and Soybean Yield and Seed Quality; Impact on 2006 Crop Insect Populations; Grain Storage Considerations; What’s the Potential for Herbicide Carryover in 2006?; Dairy and Beef Feeding Considerations; and Forage Seeding Options. Presenters will be Drs. Emerson Nafziger, Mike Gray, Ted Funk, Aaron Hager, Mike Hutjens, Dan Faulkner, Extension Specialists; and Jim Morrison, Extension Educator.
