Paint the Town Delivers Imagination – It’s All In Your Head |
|
by Marc Adami Paint the Town is rolling again. This year’s event on Saturday, September 17, 2005, will mark the 11th edition of this family oriented event. Growing from 200 to almost 1,000 squares the event has seen thousands of painters young and old contribute their creations to Paint the Town’s unique outdoor art gallery. This year’s theme, Imagination – It’s All In Your Head will also have some changes – with longer painting time, and a new entertainment focus. As always, pre-registered painters can pick up their paints or register as a walk-on painter beginning at noon and this year, paints will be available until 4 p.m. Painting will continue until 6 p.m. CAPA board members believe the longer pickup time will give those wishing to participate but with other conflicts during the day the time to get their paints and put their creation on the street. The 2005 Paint the Town will also see the entertainment come down off the stage and into the crowd. A painter may look up to see a mime, juggler or other street entertainer just inches or feet away. The center stage at Genesee and Main will be replaced by more staging areas closer to the crowd and street performers who move through the crowd. CAPA Board President Barb Bees says it was time for the entertainment to change. “The crowds have increased each year and the number of squares require so much street space that the center stage was only entertaining those very close to the performers and then it was too loud for those who were very close. We want painters and their families anywhere on the street to enjoy the entertainment and not be blown away by loud sound systems. This is an evolution of the event and the entertainment to be more involved with the crowd so that everyone who comes to paint or just experience the art, the food and the day can see, hear and enjoy them.” She said that there would still be performers in the evening within the food court area at Main and Genesee. “This is a time when people can enjoy strolling through the art, having dinner, and listening to music or putting on their dancing shoes.” Registration forms are available online at CAPA For questions involving the event call Morrison City Hall 772-7657. by Editor, theCity1.com |
