Source: Stu Ellis, Macon County Extension, 217-875-7211, Extension 278 Grain and livestock marketing, soybean rust, and family emotional health issues will be among two dozen different seminars offered by University of Illinois Extension to attendees at the Farm Progress Show at Decatur, August 30 through September 1. "One of the reasons the Farm Progress Show came to Decatur was the proximity of the show site to Richland Community College," said Stu Ellis of University of Illinois Extension, "And we're taking advantage of that venue by offering educational opportunities of interest to all members of a farm family." Seminars focused at farm operators will include market outlooks, improving management efficiencies, crop pest controls, agri-tourism, and sustainable agriculture. "Farm family members are also subject to such issues as identity theft, parenting challenges, and stress management," said Ellis, who praised many Purdue and University of Illinois Extension staff members in volunteering to present the seminars. Attendees at the seminars will also have the opportunity at several computer interactive presentations, including the use of the new USDA Food Guide Pyramid, machinery and farm rent management, and a session that will reveal skin cancer spots on individuals. The latter will be a seminar provided by the SIU School of Medicine. Seminars will be held in the air-conditioned comfort of Richland Community College lecture and classrooms. A tram will be available to take attendees from the Progress City exhibit field to Richland. A complete listing of seminars can be found on the Internet at: Extension Seminars. Most of the seminars will be about 30 minutes in length, and will be repeated each day of the three-day show. Times for the seminars will be announced in the Farm Progress Show program distributed to attendees. by Editor, theCity1.com |
