Hidden Hollow Horse Trials

Tucked away on 220 acres of land lies the cross country course and arenas which make up Hidden Hollow. This weekend it will be full of riders and horses competing in the Hidden Hollow Horse Trials.

Hidden Hollow Horse Trials will be going on Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24. One hundred forty-two riders from seven different states up from last year’s 119 competitors will be competing in this Equestrian event. It is sanctioned by USEA (United States Equestrian Association).

The competition starts Saturday morning with Dressage Competition at 8 a.m. and Cross Country Jumping will start at 10 a.m. Sunday will be Stadium Jumping, which will begin at 8 a.m. For pictures from last year events Click Here

Are you at a loss for something to do this weekend? Do you like horses? Admission is free. A concession stand is available on the site. No dogs are allowed and an adult must accompany children.

Hidden Hollow is located off of Rt. 30 West, Morrison, to Hillside Road North through Union Grove about five miles. Signs will be posted from Rt. 30. Dr. Valerie Rodgers and Dr. Robert Alt own hidden Hollow.

Valerie was an event rider who felt there was a need for a course in this area and along with Ron Preston who always wanted to do something like this joined together to create Hidden Hollow. This will be the 11th year that competitions have been held at this course. Each year they try to add something new to the course and this year four new jumps were added and an animal conservation area.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Carroll and Whiteside County DARE programs. The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program teaches children about the consequences of drug and alcohol misuse and provides them with the means to resist the temptation to experiment with these substances.

The beauty of these horses and the skills of the riders are unbelievable as horse and rider glide over jumps and flounce around the ring.

Volunteers are greatly needed for Saturday and Sunday’s events. If you are interested in volunteering please call Ron Preston at 815-541-6982 or 815-244-9758.
