Morrison Police Reports 07-11-05

On 07-05-05, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Michelle L. Zuidema, Morrison reported that her son’s bicycle was stolen the previous night. The theft occurred in the 500 block of East Main Street.

On 07-05-05, at approximately 6:50 p.m. Susan M. Houzenga, Morrison reported that her son’s bicycle was stolen the previous night. The theft occurred in the 500 block of East Main Street.

On 07-05-05, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Morrison Police charged Keelan M. Hester, 17, Morrison with one count of theft under $300. The charge was the result of an investigation by Morrison Police into the theft of meat from Sullivan Foods on 07-01-05. Hester was released on a notice to appear in court. Hester is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

During the early morning hours of 07-09-05, four golf carts were stolen from Sunset Woods golf course. Morrison Police subsequently recovered the carts from Rock Creek, French Creek, French Creek Park, and Southside Grade School. Damage to the carts was minimal. A park bench and approximately ½ acre of corn in a nearby cornfield was damaged by the carts. Police are continuing their investigation into this incident.

On 07-09-05, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Morrison Police arrested Tyler R. Engelkins, 18, on charges of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting a police officer, fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, and improper lane usage on a one-way street.
Engelkins was arrested after he fled an officer who attempted to stop Engelkins for a traffic violation while Engelkins was on a bicycle in the 200 block of West Main Street. Engelkins was chased to a residence at 105 South Orange Street where Engelkins became involved in a verbal and physical confrontation with the officer. Engelkins was subsequently transported to the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center pending an appearance before a judge. The officer was treated and released at the Morrison Community Hospital Emergency Department for minor injuries. Engelkins is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer is a Class 3 felony, punishable by incarceration in the Illinois Department of Corrections for a term of 3 to 5 years.

On 07-09-05, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Morrison Police arrested John D. Haan, 34, Morrison, on six counts of aggravated assault, six counts of unlawful use of weapons, and one count of violation of an order of protection. Haan was arrested after officers were called to the intersection of Genesee and Park Streets in response to a fight in progress. Six victim-witnesses reported that Haan had displayed a knife at them and threaten to cut them. One of the victim-witnesses subdued Haan until police arrived.
Haan was treated at Morrison Community Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the altercation. Subsequent to his treatment, Haan was incarcerated at the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center pending an appearance before a judge.
One of the victim-witnesses was Haan’s former spouse, resulting in a violation of an order of protection complaint. Haan is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
