The Chamber of Commerce After Hours was held Friday evening, June 3, 2005 at 218 West Main Street which houses The City Rebar Detailing, thecity1.com, Tegeler Accounting Services and the Morrison Sesquicentennial Store. Approximately 200 people attended the after hours to view the newly remodeled building, which had housed Mills Motors, Climco Coils and Color Star Painting.
Good food and drinks pleased everyone but the highlight of the evening was a DVD playing on the east wall of scenes from Morrison’s Centennial in 1955. What started out as an 8 mm film was transformed into a DVD.
Gordon and Nancy Richey donated the 8 mm film to the Sesquicentennial Committee. The film, produced by Bill Williams was willed to the Richey’s when Mr. Williams passed away. The Richey’s wanted to make sure that the film stayed in Morrison. Following the Sesquicentennial the film and DVD will be turned over to the Morrison Historical Society.
It was interesting to hear the comments from viewers as they watched the 1955 celebration unfold in front of their eyes. Some identified people being shown, others noticed the background scenes of Main Street with the old cars and even a STOP sign painted yellow with a red stripe across it in which the word STOP was written.
Another attraction was a 15-foot tall epoxy coated steel reinforcement for a 2’x2’ square column placed on a 6’x6’ footing pad, depicting the type of work performed by The City Rebar Detailing.
Howard “Howdy” Mills whose grandfather, W.D. Mills started the first business in the building at 218 West Main Street in 1923 was also on hand to greet people and reminisce of days gone by.
Many commented on the excellent restoration of the building by Deerview Construction and Color Star Painting.
