Kendal McDearmon

Doug Vandermyde

Rev. Ken Abell

The Morrison High School graduating Class of 2005 was honored Sunday, May 22, in the Emmanuel Reformed Church as the annual Baccalaureate.

Karen Mouw played the “Festive March” as the graduates filed into the sanctuary. Jeff McIlrath welcomed those attending and addressed the graduates.

The “Praise Team” consisting of Kim Vandermyde (electric keyboard), Jeff Dyke (electric guitar), Jason Meinsma (acoustic guitar), Matt Kistler (drums and a senior) and singers Heather McIlrath, China Rumfelt (senior), Megan Tenboer (senior) and Jeff McDearmon sang “Days of Elijah”, “One Name” and “Trading My Sorrows.”

Rev. Heju Cha recited the invocation and Kendal McDearmon and Doug Vandermyde, both 2005 graduates, read scripture.

A Power Point presentation, which first showed a baby picture and then the student’s senior picture, left many in tears as two songs by Cheri Keaggy entitled “Beautiful Little Girl” and “Little Boy on His Knees” played through the presentation.

The message given by Rev. Ken Abell was entitled, “Ambition, Purpose and Perfection.” He told the students “Chase your ambitions and go for it.” “Strive for perfection in everything you do and on occasion you will hit excellence.”

A short clip from the movie “Friday Night Lights” was shown in which it was stated by the coach before his football team was ready to play their last two quarters of a game he told them, “Perfection is not about scoring. It’s not about winning. It’s about your relationship with yourself, family and friends.”

Rev. Chris Byrd gave the benediction to the students stating, “The wonderful news is you have risen to the top of this station of life. The more challenging news is next week you graduate to the lowest level of your next step. Each of you has a different challenge in each station of life. Each and every turn in life, rise, face the challenge, set your ambitions and seek the perfection of God in our life.”

Graduation ceremonies will be held Sunday, May 29 at 2 p.m. at the Morrison High School.
