Grazing School for Livestock Producers and Agency Staff

A Grazing School for Livestock Producers and Agency Staff will be held on June 15, 2005 at the University of Illinois Extension, McLean County Unit Office, 402 North Hershey Road, Bloomington, Illinois. The Grazing School is designed for livestock producers interested in implementing or improving an existing intensive grazing system for their livestock operation. The program will also be beneficial for agency personnel. The program is being held in conjunction with the American Forage and Grassland Council 2005 Conference, June 11-15, Bloomington, Illinois area. However, the Grazing School is open for local Illinois producers to attend as well. The Grazing School will feature presentations focusing on managed grazing: why use it and how to start; extending the grazing season using annuals, warm season grasses and stockpiling; pasture soil fertility; forage specie selection and seeding rates; designing watering systems; fencing options; available cost share and incentive payments for managed grazing practices and other topics. Program presenters will include staff from Natural Resources Conservation Service, University of Illinois Extension and Western Illinois University. Cost for the program is $35 per participant, which includes lunch and resource material, and is payable to the Illinois Forage and Grassland Council. The program is co-sponsored by the American Forage and Grassland Council, Illinois Forage and Grassland Council, University of Illinois Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service and the McLean County Soil and Water Conservation District. Other activities during the American Forage and Grassland Council (AFGC) 2005 Conference include the Illinois Forage Expo, June 13 at Funk Farms, Shirley Illinois and the AFGC scientific forage presentation sessions the following day, June 14 at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center, Bloomington, Illinois.
