Over 900 people were served Sunday.

The Morrison Fire Station was “ablaze” Sunday, but not your typical firefighters flames. This particular instance didn’t warrant alarms or sirens. Griddles and coals were “hot to the touch” but the aromas coming from the firehouse were not that of burnt wood or plastic. The aromas were those of pancakes and sausage cooking.

The Morrison Volunteer Fire Department held its Annual Pancake Breakfast Sunday May 15 from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. The department put away the shovels and axes and brought out the spatulas and tongs. They hung up their heavy coats and wore red aprons instead.

Unlike most instances related to fires this one didn’t draw a crowd of lookers but a crowd of hungry residents. Bill Conboy stated that the outcome was a success and well over 900 people were served.

This annual event for the station is a main fundraiser for needed equipment and supplies. Part of the proceeds from this year’s breakfast will be used to purchase a support kit which will aid firefighters from other stations in identifying those in command and their staff for instances which require the aid from other departments in battling large incidents such as structure fires, or traffic accidents involving hazardous materials. The kit becomes a useful tool when area fire departments from around the county are called by Morrison to assist.

The Morrison Fire Department would like to truly thank the community for their continued support.
