On 05-10-05, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Morrison Police charged a 16-year-old juvenile with theft under $300. The juvenile was charged after an investigation into a bicycle that was stolen from the bike rack at Morrison Junior High School in February of this year. The juvenile was subsequently released to the custody of a parent. The case has been referred to the Whiteside County State’s Attorney for adjudication. The juvenile offender is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. On 05-13-05, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Morrison Police arrested Joseph H. Greul, 23, 116 North Jackson, Morrison, Illinois, on charges of failure to register as a sexual predator and unlawful use of a debit card. The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Police Department, and the Morrison Community Federal Credit Union into a debit card that was stolen from a customer at the Fluff and Fold Laundromat on East Main Street. The theft occurred on or about 05-08-05. The investigation into the theft by the Police Department and the Credit Union led investigators to several adult telephone services in California and New Jersey. Those telephone services cooperated with the Police Department and provided the Police Department with Greul’s first name and cellular telephone number. In the course of the investigation into the misuse of the debit card, Morrison Police learned that Greul was a sexual predator, and had not registered with the Chief of Police within ten (10) days of moving to Morrison, as required by Illinois Compiled Statutes. Greul was taken into custody after agreeing to meet with a police officer at the Morrison Police Station. Greul was subsequently incarcerated in the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center. A judge has set bond on Greul’s release at $250,000. Greul remains incarcerated. Greul is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. On 05-14-05, at approximately 6:11 a.m. an employee of Beck’s Convenience Store reported that someone had kicked in a door to a storage area of the business some time the previous night. Nothing was taken, and no entry was gained into the main area of the store. On 05-14-05, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Morrison Police cited Rita J. Kaufman, 41, Morrison, with leaving the scene of an accident-vehicle damage. The charge was the result of a report and investigation into a hit and run accident that occurred on 05-08-05, at approximately 1:30 a.m. The accident occurred in the 300 block of Florence Street when Kaufman struck a parked car and left the scene. There were no injuries. Total damage to both vehicles exceeded $500. Kaufman is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. On 05-15-05, at approximately 6:39 p.m., Morrison Police charged a 16-year-old juvenile with possession of drug paraphernalia. The juvenile was charged after Morrison Police investigated a disturbance at the intersection of Grape Street and Park Street. The juvenile was released to the custody of a parent.
