Sesquicentennial Banner is Installed |
|
Winnie the Pooh would have enjoyed watching Don Jevne install the Sesquicentennial banner on the east side of his True Value Hardware building. Tuesday, April 19, was a blustery day fit for kites, rather than for securing ropes to 45 square feet of flapping vinyl. But Jevne persevered. A white banner proclaims the dates of the special celebratory weekend of July 8-9-10 for Morrison’s Sesquicentennial. It is decorated with Jennifer Parker’s red and blue logo and her slogan, “Memories are Made in Morrison,” in black. To further remind passersby of the fun in store for them, the Saturday parade and Sunday fireworks are highlighted in red letters. Morrison Community Hospital generously contributed over 80% of the cost for the banner. Interest continues to build for the July weekend. The schedule of events and entertainment is nearly complete and will become a printed flyer soon. Admission to all these events at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds will cost only $2 per person, regardless of age. The Sesquicentennial committee is determined to keep the admission fee affordable and simple to remember. This single, $2 pass is your admission for all three days. You can purchase your weekend pass at the Sesquicentennial Store, 218 W. Main, Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 1:00 to 4:00. We have several inexpensive items for Mother’s Day gifting. And, you could include an admission pass in her card. by Stephanie A. Vavra, Guest Columnist |
