U of I Sets Schedule for 2005 Field Days Across Illinois |
|
The University of Illinois has announced its full schedule of field days at various locations around the state for the 2005 growing season. The sessions are designed to provide growers with updates on the latest research and practical applications for improving field crop production in Illinois. "We make sure that topics discussed at the field days are relevant and that we get topnotch speakers to make presentations," said Emerson Nafziger, coordinator for the U of I's Crop Sciences Research and Education Centers. "Coming to a field day is often the best, and sometimes only, way to get the latest information on a topic. We try to mix applied topics with other research that may not be quite ready for the field, but everything will be interesting and informative." He notes that all information at these sessions is presented in a sound but neutral way, with no attempt to sell specific products. "Almost everyone has heard about soybean rust and other potential or real problems, and the field days offer a chance to hear what's actually happening in the field, right during the season," Nafziger said. "If the situation calls for it, we have the flexibility of bringing in a speaker at the last minute to talk about something going on in the field that no one saw coming before the season started." The events are set for 11 sites across the state during the period from June to early September, according to the following schedule: Location, Date, Starting Time, Contact Information
