Explore Heritage Canyon

Celebrate the return of spring with an outing to Heritage Canyon in Fulton, Illinois, in the recreated village at Heritage Canyon, 515 No. 4th Street. Visitors can explore 11 historical buildings hosted by first person interpreters, some demonstrating a skill or craft, others assuming a role or portraying what life was like years ago. There are always wonderful photo opportunities throughout the Canyon. We would like to invite people to come and enjoy this "living event" at the Canyon.

Area school groups are invited on Friday, May 6th.

There will be many interesting events at Heritage Canyon for the public to enjoy on May 6th & 7th. The Canyon will be brought to life Friday, May 6, by the Early American Crafters. Visitors will be able to explore the many buildings and meet some of the crafters who bring the Canyon to life. There are always numerous photo opportunities at Heritage Canyon. On Saturday, May 7, visitors can stroll the paths, rest beneath the cool, blossoming trees in the orchard, and they may even hear sweet strains of music drifting up from the little church in the valley. They can visit with crafters in the buildings, and throughout the Canyon take in what life was like many years ago. There are many historic tools and utensils throughout. Crafters will be demonstrating spinning, knitting, tatting, chip carving, breaking of flax, spinning and weaving. Artisans will be working on their wares. Civil War re-enactors may be about the Canyon scouting for runaways. At times you may even spot the sheriff looking for a bank robber or horse thief.

There will be items available for purchase in the general store, including fragrant bars of homemade soap. At the Ice Cream Parlor there will be a variety of tempting bake sale items.

Heritage Canyon will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Friday, May 6th, and from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday, May 7th. The admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children. (Donations go toward the upkeep and maintenance of the Canyon.)

The "Dutch Days" event has something for all ages. Plan a family outing at Heritage Canyon as part of the community's annual tribute to their Dutch heritage. Downtown you can watch a parade, wooden shoe dancing, and street washing. For added fun, tour the Martin House Museum and an authentic, working Dutch windmill.
