Methodist Church to hold concert

On Sunday, April 17, 2005, “It’s a Grand Night for Singing” will celebrate God’s gift of spring and song. Presented by the musicians of the United Methodist Church of Morrison, the concert will be held in the church’s sanctuary beginning at 4:00 P.M.

Because music expresses man’s emotions, his reaction to the world, and his praise and worship, the Chancel Choir, soloists, and the hand bell choir will perform from a wide variety of secular and sacred music. The Women’s Choir will sing “An American Folk Trilogy,” a patriotic medley, and the Men’s Choir will perform the Gaither’s “I Do Believe” from the Gaither CD with Trent Bush as the featured soloist. Under the direction of Connie Swanson-DeSpain, the twelve-member hand bell choir, will offer Twyla Paris’ “Lamb of God” with Ed Pruis as the tenor soloist and oboist, Elliott Driver. To complete the concert, Nancy Poling and John Frame will play “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder.”

Soloists performing are Tonia Ernst, Connie Swanson-DeSpain, John Miller, Ed Pruis, and Pastor Dan Swinson. Their selections include “Climb Every Mountain,” from The Sound of Music; an old hymn melody, “How Do I Keep From Singing;” Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying,” the classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and from contemporary praise music “I Love Your Grace.”

During this second annual spring concert, the Choir, under the direction of John Frame, will perform “It’s a Grand Night for Singing” from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical, State Fair; the traditional spiritual, “Witness;” “Holy Ground,” a contemporary praise anthem; “Fiddler’s Jamboree,” a combination of mountain folk songs; and the traditional American tune, “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Ending the concert will be John Rutter’s “The Music’s Always There With You.”

Contemporary praise music, a patriotic salute, old melodies from hymns, Broadway, and the movies, mountain folk music, spirituals, and toe-tapping tunes all will be offered in an uplifting salute of sound and song! You are most cordially invited to attend this joyful presentation. A free will offering will be taken with the proceeds used for apportionment in mission.
