Eight Morrison Girl Scout Troops joined together Thursday night, April 7, 2005 to pack goods they had collected as part of a community project to obtain their “My Community” badge.

Junior Troops 12 and 66 organized the “Help Support Our Troops” project on their own and chose to involve the other scout troops and make it a community project. Collection boxes were set up at various locations in Morrison.

Morrison’s Troops included were Brownie Troops 126, 178 and 96; Junior Troops 12 and 66; Cadet Troops 5 and 31; and Senior Troop 193.

Over 175 pounds of supplies were collected from March 1st through 31st to be shipped to local armed service personal.

Items collected during the month long project included personal hygiene supplies, reading and puzzle books, Mother’s Day Cards, phone cards, shippable foods and small stuffed animals. Monetary donations were also accepted to defray costs of shipping, which runs almost $1 per pound.

If you would still like to make a monetary contribution to the Girl Scouts’ project or if you know a local service person who would enjoy receiving a “Care Package” please call Kathy VanderVinne at 772-4724.

Representative from the different troops who helped ready the packages to be sent were: L-R (back row) – Carole Patten – Regional Director; Samantha Mapes, Susan Mapes – Leader for Cadet Troop 31; Kristen Mapes; Emily Davis; and Kathy VanderVinne – Town Chairman and Leader of Junior Troops 12 and 66. Front Row: Marissa Smith; Liz Buckwalter; Sarah Mapes; Madeline Barry; Taylor Weeks; Esther Salazar; Denise Bramm – Leader of Brownie Troop 126; Maddie Kull; Kate Miller; and Monica Schipper. Those not present for the picture but helped in the preparation were Erin Roggy and Robbie Jackson.
