Shaffer Arrested on Battery Charges

On 03-14-05, at approximately 11:25 a.m., Morrison Police arrested Rodney D. Shaffer, 25, Morrison, on charges of aggravated battery to a child and aggravated domestic battery. Shaffer was charged after Morrison Police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) investigated an incident in which Shaffer’s 23-month-old son was treated at the University of Iowa Medical Center for a broken femur. The injury was incurred on March 3.

The child and his mother (who is not married to Shaffer) have been placed in an undisclosed location by DCFS. The child was released from the hospital on March 9.

Shaffer was incarcerated in the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center pending an appearance before a judge. Aggravated battery is a Class X felony, punishable by six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC). Aggravated domestic battery is a Class 2 felony, punishable by three to seven years in DOC. Shaffer is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Morrison Police Department and DCFS are continuing their investigation into this incident.
