4-H Members Compete for 2005 Communication Contest Honors

Whiteside County 4-H members competed for top honors at the recent 4-H Communications contest held on Monday, February 21 in Morrison. Each spring 4-H members are invited to participate in the Communications Contest, which showcases a diversity of 4-H members speaking talents.

Through participation in the Whiteside County Communications Contest, 4-H members can qualify for the Illinois State Fair Communications competition. Danielle Cooney, Allie Huizenga, Joshua Landis, and Karl Miller were selected in the area of public presentations at State Fair Delegates.

The Communications Contest competitors presented the following: Catherine Cooney, Daughter of Tom and Joan Cooney of Deer Grove, is a member of the Hume Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. Her Illustrated Speech was on “All About Cats.” Danielle Cooney, daughter of Tom and Joan Cooney of Deer Grove, is a member of the Hume Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. Her Illustrated Speech was on “Puppetry” and her food demonstration was on “Snack Time.” Tonja Egan, daughter of Doug and Kim Egan of Deer Grove, is a member of the Hume Happy Hustlers 4-H Club. Her Formal Speech was on “Family Farms and Factory Farms.” Allie Huizenga, daughter of Tom and Kristi Huizenga of Morrison, is a member of the Garden Plain Ripsnorters 4-H Club. Her Formal Speech was “My Worst Fear.” Lea Kruse, daughter of Tom and Karen Kruse of Sterling, is a member of the Cottonwood 4-H Club. Her Illustrated Speech was on “Golden Retrievers.” Jacob Landis, son of Keith and Lois Landis of Sterling, is a member of the Genesee Hillbillies 4-H Club. Jacob’s Original Works was “A Week That Lives Forever.” Joshua Landis, also the son of Keith and Lois Landis of Sterling, is a member of the Genesee Hillbillies. Joshua’s Illustrated Speech was “A Look Into Ecuador.” Karl Miller, son of Lynn and Kris Miller of Prophetstown, is a member of the Leon Stickers 4-H Club. His Formal Speech was “What Shorthorns Can Do To Improve the Beef Industry.”
