Sesquicentennial Parade Band Needed

What is a parade without the rousing music of a band? Morrison Sesquicentennial is building a community band for the 1:00 parade on Saturday, July 9. It will include students from the junior and senior high schools and adults of all ages.

Our minimum goal is 20 members, but this is an event where “the more, the merrier” truly applies. Any instrument which can be carried is welcome. A good mix of percussionists is needed to set a cadence and stir the senses.

Parade chair Betty Stralow has designed a route that is unique. Entrants will begin at the General Electric Company parking lot, march through neighborhoods to the east, and wend their way west along Winfield to the Whiteside County Fairgrounds. Trains and traffic will be avoided; citizens will line the streets and shady yards of Morrison to view the parade. Others may choose to sit in the grandstand to watch a pageant immediately following the parade.

A Chippewa song states, “My music reaches to the sky.” This is the exact sentiment that will exemplify the Sesquicentennial Parade Band. To participate in this essential addition to the July 8-10 sesquicentennial weekend, contact Carolyn Aiken at 772-2813 during the month of March.
