VanderSchaaf Featured Speaker at IPLSA Conference |

Butch VanderSchaaf, surveying instructor for Morrison Institute of Technology, was a featured speaker at the 48th Annual Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Conference held in Springfield, IL February 17-19. VanderSchaaf gave a two-hour presentation each day of the conference on Ethics for the Land Surveyor. All professional land surveyors in Illinois are required to have 2 hours of ethics education each year in order to renew their memberships with the Illinois Professional Land Surveyor’s Association. Approximately 1,100 people attended this year’s conference. VanderSchaaf has been involved in surveying since 1961 when he started as a roadman for a local surveying firm. Since 1966, he has worked full time in the surveying profession. He has experience in all aspects of land surveying and has industrial surveying experience doing optical tooling work for major projects. He received his Illinois PLS license in 1973 and his Iowa PLS license in 1987. Butch owned and operated VanderSchaaf Land Surveying from 1974-1996 in Morrison Illinois. He started teaching surveying classes part-time in 1979 at Morrison Institute of Technology and became full time in 2001. He is presently the head of the Construction Technology Department. He also works part time for Wendler Engineering and Surveying, Inc. VanderSchaaf has been a member of the Illinois Professional Land Surveyor’s Association (IPLSA) since 1975. He was past president of the Two Rivers Chapter, member of the IPLSA state ethics and practice committee and currently serves on the education and training committee. Butch is also a member of the Iowa Society of Land Surveyors, American Congress of Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) and the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). VanderSchaaf was appointed to the Illinois Examining Board in 1990, serving in various positions until 2000. He was a member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCEES) and is now an Emeritus member of MCEES, serving as a member of the Examinations for Professional Surveyors (EPS) Committee and chairing the Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) subcommittee. by Editor, theCity1.com |
