Morrison Music students participate in contest

Music students from Morrison and Erie High Schools participated in a contest on Saturday, February 26 held at Morrison High School. Music events are judged by a panel of experts and given a rating with a I being superior, II being excellent, III being good, IV as fair and V as poor. Results from Saturday's contest are as follows:

Erie Band earned a II, Morrison Band earned a I, Morrison Concert Choir earned a II, Erie Chorus earned a II, Morrison Robed Choir earned a I.

The following students earned a Division I rating on their solos: Elizabeth Lee, William Thorndike, Natassia Nelson, Jordan Mann, Ashley Hook and Trisha Beswick on flute; Eliot Driver on oboe; Doug Mouw and Alyssa Barnett on trumpet; Julianna Karvelius and Daniel Kaiser on alto saxophone; Charles Janicek on trombone, Taylor Boyles on tuba; Shelly Drehmer on piano, Haley Ryan, Andrea Tomasino, Samy Nye, Taylor Boyles, Kristin Martin, Jennifer Thorndike, China Rumfelt on voice.

The following students earned a Division II rating on their solos: Michael Benson on baritone, Bethany Gravert, voice.

The following ensembles from Morrison earned a Division I rating; Percussion Ensemble with Matt Kistler, Larry Gatz, China Rumfelt, Bridgett Wood, Justine Adolph, Lucas Akker, and Travis Kuntzelman, Brass Choir with Doug Vandermyde, Alyssa Barnett, Kelly Rizer, Doug Mouw, Rustin Lindsey, Mitchell Boles, Jessica Fetzer, Andrew Holt, Charles Janicek, Cory Anderson, Abigail Weisel, Chris Nye, Nate Kooi, Michael Benson, Taylor Boyles and Ryan Scott; Woodwind Choir with Elizabeth Lee, Allison Connelly, Jamie Ware, Monique Vos, Sarah Eissens, Sam Nye, Shelly Drehmer, Megan Nelson, Danielle Kanzler, Alisha Engelkes, Alene Vandermyde, Christina Justice, Eliot Driver, Kendra Kuehl, Julianna Karvelius, Adam Jevne, Brenna Smoot and Daniel Deter; Flute Choir with Andrea Tomasino, William Thorndike, Mallory Navarra, Natassia Nelson, Brandy Stuart, Jordan Mann, Michelle Bos, Ashley Hook, Trisha Beswick, Donna Mahoney; Mixed Wind Quintet with Trisha Beswick, Ashley Hook, Megan Nelson, Alyssa Barnett and Brenna Smoot; Mixed Wind Quartet with Elizabeth Lee, Julianna Karvelius, Charles Janicek and Taylor Boyles.

The following ensembles from Morrison earned a Division II rating: Mixed Brass Quartet with Mitchell Boles, Kelly Rizer, Cory Anderson and Chris Nye; Saxophone Ensemble with Daniel Kaiser, Tyler VanZuiden, Jason Wright, Joe Amstutz, Brandon Klotz, Travis VanZuiden and Daniel Deter; Trumpet Duet of Rustin Lindsey and Doug Mouw; and a Flute/Clarinet Quintet with Brandy Stuart, Michelle Bos, Sarah Eissens, Danielle Kanzler and Shelly Drehmer.

The following vocal ensembles from Morrison earned a Division I rating: Follow Me with Kristin Martin and Jennifer Thorndike; Red, Red Rose with Stacy Belha, Mallory Navarra, Monique Vos, Cameron Bierman, Mollie McNitt and Rachel Workman; Mad Girls with Megan Tenboer, Andrea Tomasino, China Rumfelt, Monique Vos, Samantha Nye, Erica Sanchez, Hayley Ryan and Laura Prange; the Madrigal Singers; Regina Andelorum with Liz Urban and Rachel Workman; and a vocal duet with China Rumfelt and Taylor Boyles.

The following vocal ensembles form Morrison earned a Division II rating; Robed Choir Guys with Daniel Deter, Andrew Holt, Ben Frederick, Eli Gravert, Max Robertson, Bert Thorndike, Taylor Boyles, Andrew Akker, Larry Gatz, Rustin Lindsey and Evan Burchett; Ally Bally with Mercedes Dietrich, Brittany Frederick, Hannay Oostenryk and Bethany Gravert; Simple Gifts with Emily Miller, Allyson VanBuren, Jennifer Venhuizen and Aimee Marruffo; and Lone Wild Bird with Allyson Muur and Rebecca Head; Drinking Gourd with Cendra Engelkens, Amber DeShane, Stephanie Druien and Ashley Penaflor earned a Division III rating.
