Make Your Plans Now!

The weekend of July 8, 9 and 10, 2005 promises to be a great one in Morrison as the yearlong celebration of our 150th Anniversary comes to a climatic conclusion. The Sesquicentennial Committee has been hard at work discussing and planning a special time for all. Many others have shared ideas and volunteered to implement them. Here are just some of events that are planned for the weekend.

Friday, July 8th: Native Americans and Civil War re-enactors will set up their individual camps at the Fairgrounds, providing exciting educational information and displays over the 3 days. A Soap Box Derby and a Golf Tournament are in the planning stages. At least two Morrison High School reunions will be held and a special high school tour and group photo is planned for them. Special citizens of Morrison will be honored at a Gala Dinner in the evening.

Saturday, July 9th: The Civil War Camp will open at 7AM and cannon shots will be heard every 60 minutes throughout the day. Special greeters will be on hand downtown to welcome visitors. Girls Scouts will have a 5K run at Lake Carlton. At 8AM, the Morrison Fest with activities for the young people will be held in the first building at the Fairgrounds, a Model Train group will set up their displays in another building, and a Craft Show as well as other vendors in another. Food vendors will be on the grounds. The Sesquicentennial Parade will begin at 1PM, forming at the GE parking lots and following a route south of the railroad tracks, ending at the Fairgrounds. A Pageant will be held at the Grandstand around 3:30PM. That evening the Classic Car show will be held downtown. Plans are also being made for a Sock Hop along with a Karaoke contest and possible lip sync contest and other activities.

Sunday, July 10th: At 9AM the Civil War group will hold a church service. The displays in the buildings will open at 10AM with a Firefighter’s water fight at noon at Waterworks Park. At 2PM, an ecumenical Worship service will be held at the Grandstand. Various musical groups will entertain during the afternoon and a special program is planned for 8PM. The Grand Finale will be an exciting Fireworks display at 9:30PM.
