Paint the Town - Harvest Hammer 2005

We’re back!

After a one-year hiatus, Morrison’s Paint the Town art festival will return to Main Street this fall. In a joint press conference on Monday, January 24, Paint the Town and Harvest Hammer race committees announced the events will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2005.

Main Street will once again be turned into a giant outdoor art gallery as artists of all ages paint their own squares on the street. “We know Paint the Town was missed last year and we are happy to be planning for it again,” said Barb Bees, Paint the Town Co-Chairman. “Some generous and talented volunteers have offered their time to assist with the organization of the event by working on and chairing some of the committees.”

“This is one of the reasons we can come back strongly,” added Bee’s Co-Chairman Gail Smith. ‘We appreciate their commitment to making this happen.”

The painting will remain the same but the co-chairs outlined a slightly different approach to the entertainment. “We continue to evolve on this and the 2005 event will have no center stage and in fact, no stages at all,” said Bees. “We will be using street entertainment exclusively and feel strongly that this is what the crowd will enjoy – everything from musicians to mimes, jugglers and more. Our participants will have the entertainment all around them and won’t have to leave their square to enjoy this aspect of the arts.”

“The day is a celebration of art,” added Gail Smith “One of the wonderful things about the event is the wide variety of subject matter and skill level, each square an original. Everybody just has a good time.”

As in the past the Harvest Hammer races will be held in the morning and Paint the Town in the afternoon. Both committees feel that the events offer a day of fun, food and entertainment for children and families.

Bees added, “It is good for the community and puts Morrison on the map for those that come here to participate in one or both of these very special experiences.”
