Fillies take 2nd game by 14.

After advancing to the winner’s bracket by defeating the Geneseo J.V. team by 12 points, the Fillies were ready to take on the hosting Lady Steamers.


They opened up the game in the first quarter with a 9-6 lead. The second quarter was much of the same story. Fulton was again outscored, 9-7 this time. Morrison led by 5 at the half. Both teams came out firing in the third. Both jumped into double digit quarter scoring. Fulton put in twelve points, but they couldn’t hold the Fillies down. Morrison put in 14 more. The Fillies broke the game open in the fourth. They doubled their seven- point lead to win the game by 14. Morrison added 19 and Fulton put in 12 more points before games end. The ending score was 51-37.
Both teams had a fouling frenzy. Between the two, six players fouled out. Morrison lost two, Michaele Vock and Katie Tenboer. Fulton lost four players, two of which were Amanda Boonstra and Aubrey Rhoades. Morrison was called for 22 fouls and Fulton, 26.
Fulton attempted 21 free throws and made 10 of them. Morrison was 51% from the line, nailing 19 of their 37 attempts. Amanda “Smiley” Smith was 75% from the line, draining 6 of her 8 attempts. Abby Vock put in 4 of her 7 shots. Heather attempted 10 free throws and made five of them. Kelly Tenboer and Michaele each shot twice from the stripe and made one. Katie was one for three, followed by Jodi Medendorp at one of five shooting.
Morrison put in 15 field goals after attempting 46, giving them a field goal percentage of 33%. Fulton shot a higher percentage, but they didn’t shoot as many times. The Steamers put in 13 of their 32 shots for 41% from the field. They nailed their one three-point attempt. Morrison attempted five three pointers, and made two of them. Abby knocked in both.
Abby led the team in scoring with 18 points. Heather scored 11, and Amanda added 10 more. Katie put in five points before fouling out. Michaele and Kelly each scored 3 points, followed by Jodi with one point.
Abby also led the team in steals. There she recorded three. Four players, Amanda, Michaele, Jodi, and Heather, each swiped the ball twice. Kate mugged a Steamer once.
Heather must have been having a whole lotta fun on defense. She had a game-high of three blocks. Katie chipped in with one of her own.
The Fillies out rebounded the Steamers 23-18. 10 of Morrison’s boards were offensive. Heather led with six, followed by Michaele and Jodi each grabbing five. Kelly snatched three boards, while cousin Katie clasped two. Amanda and Abby each brought the ball off the glass once.
The Fillies had 13 turnovers in the game.
Morrison’s record after this game was 7-4. They moved on to the championship round where they would play the Riverdale Rams.
