Fillies Tire Early, But Later Came Back. |
| By: Lindsey Smith Directly after winning their first game against Monmouth in the Rockridge Sophomore Tournament, the Fresh-Soph Fillies took on the hosting Rockridge Lady Rockets. It was noticeable that the Fillies were tired from the first game, as they could only get two points to fall in the first quarter. Rockridge came out firing, knocking in 14 points. In the second, Morrison started to “wake up” on defense. They only allowed the Lady Rockets to score two points. Rockridge’s defense was just as tough, as the Fillies could only score three points. In the third quarter, the Fillies again worked hard on the defensive end to hold Rockridge to just three points, all of which were free throws. Morrison found the basket on the free throw line in the third to score seven points. At the end of the third, the score was 12-19. Rockridge would come out in the fourth quarter to score right away on free throws. 8 of Rockridge’s last 10 points in the game came from the free throw line. Morrison added five more points in the fourth, but they couldn’t hold Rockridge down for a third quarter. They put in seven more points to end the game at 26. Morrison lost by a score of 17-26. Morrison was called for nearly twice as many fouls as Rockridge was. Morrison had 15 fouls total in the game, while Rockridge was called for 9. There were just four scorers for Morrison in this game. Ashlie Patten led with 8 points. She hit the only three pointer in the game. Lindsey Smith followed her with four points, and Heather Andersen with three. Megan Nelson rounded up the scoring for the Fillies with two. The free throw line was what the game boiled down to in the game. Rockridge made more free throws than Morrison attempts. They nailed 8 of their 18 attempts. Morrison, on the other hand, shot 8 free throws. Lindsey hit both of hers. Ashlie knocked in one of her two shots. Heather scored once on her four attempts. Morrison’s third game of the day was against Orion. The girls played the nail-biter game down to the wire. by larryg |
